Volunteering on Project China--Pandas

I am very interested in the Project China--Pandas trip, but I'd like to know how much volunteering is actually involved. How many hours? Is there an opportunity to get up close to some of the animals? (I know the Chengdu Centre offers photos for a price.) Do you get to work behind the scenes? Would you recommend the experience to others?

I'm torn between this trip and another one with a few more days of volunteering. Any insight would be lovely!
