gifts for the locals

Ancient temples swallowed by the jungle, rice paddies, local markets, stunning beaches, fiery cuisine, smoking incense at the feet of a golden Buddha, and the friendliest locals around.

gifts for the locals

Postby manicmom » Fri Sep 28, 2012 2:01 pm

Last year we visited Soweto and I took along a supply of childrens football shirts for the children which were a great success.

We are going to India in November (Delhi to Kathmandu) and wonder if anyone has any thoughts on gifts we could take to give to the local people. I have been told to take pencils, fridge magnets, face cream etc., but would love other suggestions.

Many thanks

While this does give you instant gratification, I would suggest alternatively a donation of items or money to a local NGO or church to support the community in a way that doesn't foster a culture of begging.

Have a great time!

Aternatively, you could buy gifts in India and take them home. This helps with the local economy. :D
