Buying Domestic Flights in India???

Hi

I was wondering whether it was cheaper to buy domestic flights;
A. In India, (from perhaps the airports or an agent out there)
B. Using a particular airlines' website or
C. Whether it is cheaper/more reliable to use something like Cleartrip?

I'm looking specifically at the routes Delhi - Darjeeling and then Kolkata - Kerala. Any tips - eg good airlines/agents in India/websites - depending what is concluded from the above as cheapest, cheapest/best destination airport (particularly Kerala) etc are welcome!!!

If you've done either of these journey's before let me know how you found it/any tips!

I'm also willing to do Delhi - Darjeeling by train if anyone can recommend the journey/good trains to get?
