More involved in travel community

How does one become a travel Speaker etc.

For those type of people who go to conferences or talk at a local college etc on travels.

How does one get involved with that.

What are ways to become more indirectly involved with travel when not travelling.

I know that the HI hostel here in Winnipeg is always looking for speakers to talk about their travels. Maybe you could swing a road trip from TBay to Winnipeg? Are there any hostels in TBay?
