Did Israel on my own two summers ago. It's a small country, so it's easy to drive most everywhere. I was based out of Binyamina (north of Tel Aviv), though spent a few nights in Jerusalem. Besides what you've listed, I'd recommend Megiddo (Armageddon), Beit She'an, Caesarea, and Akko. Would have liked to have had a guide in Jerusalem as I don't feel that I saw (or appreciated) but a fraction of it.

The dead sea is a must obviously as is Mesada. Both Eilat and Tzfat have things that I think are worth seeing or doing, but it depends on what you want to do. Beth Shean interested me, but again, personal preference. I'd at least hire a guide for Jerusalem and Mesada.
