Good backpacker accomo in Delhi and Rishikesh, India?

Hi

I am travelling on my own to India in November, and wondered if anyone had any advice on good places to stay in Delhi and Rishikesh, that are budget friendly (RTW trip budget) but also not too dirty (I can tolerate anything apart from cold water showers!) and where's also good to meet fellow travellers - especially in Rishikesh. As obviously, travelling on my own I don't really want to be stuck in a single/double room not meeting people.

I'm happy to sacrifice some home comforts for some friendly faces and new people to meet! Any tips or suggestions would be fantastic!! (I am also going to Kolkata, Kerala and Goa - so suggestions for these are welcome too)
