Hi All,

I have requested Customer Services to reconfirm that the YOLO age restrictions have been lifted and when the website will be updated too. Hopefully we should hear from them soon and this will be our update on the watering hole.

Happy Travels!

Hey, TravelFun, has there been any word from Customer Services about YOLO yet?

I'm really keen to go back to Africa with GAdventures, but, despite being slap bang in the middle of the age restrictions, I feel very uneasy about going on a YOLO tour. I was eyeing up the Deltas, Dunes and Falls trip, but if it stays YOLO I think I'll take a chance on the equivalent tour with On The Go or Intrepid.

Behavior like you describe is NOT age related... unless the old people were physically unable to participate in such duties (not real likely if they were doing such a trip in Africa). I've been with a number of groups and seen similar "lazy" or "privileged" behavior in FAR younger people but never associated this behavior with their ages... it was just who they were. Such instances in adventure
trips to Africa should be extremely rare since those types of personalities would be much more comfortable in resorts or on cruises.

If you look at the description of YOLO, it says "popular with 18-30 somethings". This sounds to me like there are no age restrictions, but just info regarding the demographic that generally books these tours.

What I have found is that quite a few tours that were once overland, have changed to YOLO with camping. I assume this means no more big truck and perhaps taking buses from campsite to campsite?

The scuttlebutt (that we're trying to confirm) is that the previous age restrictions have been lifted from YOLO tours so YOLO is now used more as a designator for the more adventurous, less luxurious trips. I would not assume this means no more big truck -- we used the truck to go from camp site to camp site on the overland expeditions and that is still probably the most cost-effective way to transport 20-something adventurous souls all over Africa. Besides, G just invested in new trucks a few years ago so it would be odd to get rid of them now.

Received the confirmation:

Indeed - there are no age restrictions on booking yolo. The nature of the trips tends to attract a younger-at-heart crowd. If that is you, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Excellent news! And thank you for the link to the overland question I had - I'm happy that Dunes, Deltas and Falls is back on my wishlist! :)

YOLO is definitely the way to go, those overland trucks have WAY more room for our walkers and canes than the jeeps do. And don't forget the extra water needed to store our dentures at night...
Thanks, G, we knew you'd come through for us young-at-hearts. We love ya!

Am I wrong or is YOLO "Recommended for 18-to-thirtysomthings" It's not a rule & if the trip suits you whats the problem.

When the designation was launched it was billed that way but the reality was that they restricted bookings to those 39 and under. That's what caused the furor. Some forum members who were 40 and up got denied trips and it didn't go over well here! Apparently there were complaints from younger travelers that the older members of the group weren't fun to travel with so G tried YOLO to address the problem. It seems to have created more complaints so they've abandoned the strict age limit. Maybe young travelers were just more computer savvy and managed to lodge their complaints...us old geezers were still writing snail mail and our memories weren't good enough to remember where we left our pens and paper, never mind the high cost of stamps, so we didn't complain. 8)
It's all good now. :D
