Cape Town: Eco Friendly shark diving tours that don't chum?

Postby heredog919 » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:44 am

Has anyone been on a G Adventure to Cape Town and found a shark diving operator that does not chum the water to attract sharks?

Been researching quite a bit but only ran across The Shark Lady who got an angry/bad review on Tripadvisor.

All operators use something to attract sharks close-up to their boat if shark cage diving is the goal - normally the objection is to operators that use shark liver as an attractor. This practice is not the rule. However if you do not want to see the use of ANY kind of fish bait then you ought to consider avoiding trips that involve shark diving. On the other hand if you only want to see natural predation then obviously there is no reason to attract the sharks with bait on this type of trip. Hence as a first step, I'd suggest that you decide on the type of trip that you're interested in.

We've used African Shark Eco-Charters (http://www.ultimate-animals.com/) from Simonstown on False Bay twice and found them to be very good and ethical. They offer several different type of tours. If your interested in seeing what their very interesting Airjaws trip is like, we've posted a couple of videos:
