Question to those who have been on this trip - do you have the opportunity fly to Abu Simbel instead of driving (at a higher cost of course) and the balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings?

We essentially did this same trip as part of DPJA.

Since the trip to Abu Simbel is optional and essentially takes all day by bus, you can use that time as you see fit including flying to Abu Simbel. Personally the bus trip was OK and we could not justify the cost of flying despite the very early start time.

the balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings?

We took the balloon trip at Luxor and enjoyed it. Our CEO arranged this for us since he made a percentage of the cost. However, our trip was not over the Valley of the Kings. We started near the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and floated south past the Colossi of Memnon, the Mortuary Temple of Ramesses II, etc.
