Deciding on Ecuador trip

Postby 48sandyc » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:21 pm

I am an inexperienced traveler looking at taking the Inland-Amazon tour or the Ecuador Experience tour. One is a basic tour & the other a standard tour. Both are level 3 activity. Has anyone taken either of these & have any advise?

How much do you like the beach? That would be the main advantage to the Ecuador Experience trip. Keep in mind that the Pacific is cold May-September (more or less) and it can be foggy in June, July, August; however August is the best time to see the whales.

Unless you are keen on the beach (Frailes beach in Machalilla National Park is beautiful) I'd recommend the Inland and Amazon trip. Cuenca (a UNESCO heritage site) is a more interesting city to visit than Guayaquil (a big sprawling metropolis) and Cajas National Park is worth a visit. Staying in a 400-year-old hacienda in Cayambe sounds better to me than a day trip to Ibarra. The Amazon visit looks the same for both trips, and may well be the highlight of both trips.
